Adafruit NeoPixel Stick – 8 × WS2812 RGB LEDs

An eight-pixel WS2812/NeoPixel stick matching the default LED count in Pi LED Dashboard.

Description

This compact stick has exactly eight individually addressable WS2812/NeoPixel RGB LEDs, matching the default LED_COUNT = 8 used by the Meow Meow Scratch Pi LED Dashboard.

Project compatibility

  • Power at 5V and connect the data path to GPIO18 as documented.
  • Observe DIN versus DOUT; data must enter at DIN.
  • At low brightness an eight-pixel build is commonly powered from the Pi’s 5V rail as the guide describes, but full-white maximum current can approach 432mA.
  • Use the existing external 5V supply catalogue bundle for higher brightness or expanded pixel counts, and always share ground with the Pi.

3.3V data-level note

Raspberry Pi GPIO outputs 3.3V, while NeoPixels powered at 5V may require a higher data signal. A direct GPIO18-to-DIN connection can work for a short bench build but is not guaranteed across pixel revisions, wiring lengths and temperature. For a robust installation, put a 74AHCT125 or 74HCT245 logic-level shifter between GPIO18 and DIN.

Merchant SKU: ADA1426. Header/wire soldering is required.
