PiicoDev Ambient Light Sensor VEML6030

The 16-bit VEML6030 PiicoDev light sensor used by Pi Light Meter to measure ambient brightness.

Description

The PiicoDev Ambient Light Sensor uses a VEML6030 for 16-bit light-intensity measurements. It is the exact module named by the Meow Meow Scratch Pi Light Meter project.

Compatibility

  • Connects to Raspberry Pi through the PiicoDev Adapter for Raspberry Pi and a PiicoDev cable.
  • Uses I²C address 0x10 by default or 0x48 with the address switch, allowing two modules on one bus.
  • PiicoDev connectors are compatible with Qwiic and STEMMA QT at 3.3 V.

Use notes

Mount the sensing face where it can see the scene being measured, away from status LEDs and enclosure shadows. Lux comparisons are most useful when the sensor orientation and diffuser arrangement stay consistent.

Included here: sensor module only. Raspberry Pi, adapter and cable are separate.
