Description
The DFRobot SEN0193 measures soil moisture capacitively, avoiding the exposed metal electrodes found on inexpensive resistive probes. It is the analogue sensor used with the MCP3008 in the Raspberry Pi plant-monitor project.
Project compatibility
- Operates from 3.3–5.5 V; use 3.3 V in this project.
- Its analogue output is approximately 1.2–2.5 V, suitable for the project’s 3.3 V MCP3008 setup.
- The supplied cable connects signal, power and ground.
Before wiring
Do not immerse the electronics above the marked probe section, and keep the connector dry. Soil type and packing change the readings, so record dry and wet reference values for each installation before choosing thresholds.
