PiicoDev Colour Sensor VEML6040

The VEML6040 PiicoDev colour sensor used by Pi Colour Sensor for 16-bit red, green and blue light measurements.

Description

The PiicoDev Colour Sensor uses a VEML6040 to measure red, green, blue and white light with 16-bit output. It is the exact module named by the Meow Meow Scratch Pi Colour Sensor project.

Compatibility

  • Connects to Raspberry Pi through the PiicoDev Adapter for Raspberry Pi and a PiicoDev cable.
  • Designed for 3.3 V PiicoDev connections and compatible Qwiic/STEMMA QT wiring where voltage requirements match.
  • Includes standard breakout pads for advanced prototyping.

Use notes

Colour classification depends on lighting, distance and the surface being measured. Calibrate with the real objects and lighting used by your project rather than expecting display-style 8-bit RGB values.

Included here: sensor module only. Raspberry Pi, adapter and cable are separate.
