Description
This one-metre Adafruit NeoPixel strip has 30 individually addressable WS2812B RGB LEDs, exactly matching the default LED_COUNT = 30 in the Meow Meow Scratch Pi Xmas Lights project.
Required power setup
- Use a separate regulated 5V supply rated for at least 2A; the existing 5V 4A catalogue supply and barrel-terminal adapter are suitable companions.
- Connect the external supply ground, strip ground and Raspberry Pi ground together.
- Connect the data path from GPIO18 to the strip’s data input, not its data output.
- Do not route the strip’s 5V load through the Raspberry Pi.
3.3V data-level note
Raspberry Pi GPIO outputs 3.3V, while NeoPixels powered at 5V may require a higher data signal. A direct GPIO18-to-DIN connection can work on the bench but is not guaranteed across pixel revisions, cable lengths and temperature. For a robust installation, put a 74AHCT125 or 74HCT245 logic-level shifter between GPIO18 and DIN.
